Expressive Acrylics - Exploring Techniques & Textures

£90.00

One Day Workshop - Saturday 23rd Nov 2024

If you are new to painting or looking to enhance your skills, come and join me on from for a fun, experimental, acrylic painting workshop.

We will learn about acrylic paint and other complimentary materials, how to mix a myriad of colours from a basic limited palette, explore different mixed media and collage techniques, learning how to build rich layers and create interesting textures, and develop good sketchbook practices to help figure out what your creative voice is.

The subject matter is open in this workshop, so it doesn’t matter if you are interested in abstract or figurative art. This class aims to give you a solid foundation in skills and discovery, develop a long lasting, experimental creative process and really explore the personal, expressive side of painting which will allow you to produce art that is uniquely yours that will also resonate with others.

What you will need to bring with you:

  • An apron or old clothes you won’t mind getting dirty.

  • Examples of paintings or photos that inspire you - this is optional and you won’t be copying anything you bring - to be used as a starting point for further exploration.

  • A packed lunch - I can provide teas and coffee but recommend you bring your own food, and of course the Stapleford Granary Cafe has a selection of light lunches and refreshments.

What I will bring:

  • I will provide all paint, paper, collage materials, pencils and brushes and anything else I can think of that will allow you to have a fun time getting familiar with the subject and expressing yourself in paint!

  • Reference images that we can use as starting points, if you haven’t already brought your own (see above), and lots of tips, tricks and experience to get you exploring with freedom and fun.

  • 20 years experience teaching workshops and developing my own techniques through being a collage artist and designer, turned painter in more recent years. I have made mistakes and had successes in equal measure, so know all the pitfalls and want to encourage everyone, with no judgement, to create and express themselves!

Where is the workshop?

  • Studio 3, Stapleford Granary, Bury Road, Stapleford, Cambridge, CB22 5BP

  • Limited free parking is available on site, if full please park respectfully in nearby roads.

When is the workshop?

  • Saturday 23rd Nov 9:30am - 4:30pm

How the course will unfold:

  • We will start with colour mixing tips, understanding how to create you own unique palette with limited colours.

  • Experiment with various materials and think about ideas and inspiration.

  • How to develop strategies for a good experimental practice to aid your artistic development and break creative blocks.

  • Learn how to select the elements we like and which we don’t, and develop a good eye for good composition.

  • Understand how to let go of ‘mistakes’ and negativity. Getting your mindset right is key to developing a fulfilling artistic journey.

  • By the end of the day you should have the beginnings of the knowledge you need to start you off on your creative journey and hopefully have one finished painting to take home with you!

How much is the workshop?

£90 with all materials provided and you can take all your artwork home.

There are only 8 spaces available so this is a small workshop and I will be fully hands on to help you and answer any questions.
