Expressive Acrylics - Contemporary Still Life / Figurative

£250.00

8 Week Course

If you are new to painting or looking to enhance your skills, come and join me for a fun, experimental, acrylic painting course.

We will learn about materials, how to mix a myriad of colours from a basic limited palette, explore different mixed media and collage techniques, and develop good sketchbook practices to help figure out what your creative voice is.

The subject we will focus on will be contemporary still life, as well as other figurative styles such as portraits. This class aims to show you how to develop a long lasting creative process, use sketchbooks with intention, find your colour palette and really explore the personal, expressive side of painting which will allow you to produce art that is uniquely yours that will also resonate with others.

What you will need to bring with you:

  • An apron or old clothes you won’t mind getting dirty.

  • Examples of paintings that inspire you, or photos of your own for reference - this is optional and you won’t be copying anything you bring, these will be used as a starting point for further exploration.

What I will bring:

  • I will provide all paint, paper, collage materials, pencils and brushes and anything else I can think of that will allow you to have a fun time getting familiar with the subject and expressing yourself in paint!

  • Reference images that we can use as starting points to learn how to paint contemporary still life, if you haven’t already brought your own (see above).

  • 20 years experience teaching workshops and developing my own techniques through being a collage artist and designer, turned painter in more recent years. I have made mistakes and had successes in equal measure, so know all the pitfalls and want to encourage everyone, with no judgement, to create and express themselves!

Where is the workshop?

  • Studio 3, Stapleford Granary, Bury Road, Stapleford, Cambridge, CB22 5BP

  • Limited free parking is available on site, if full please park respectfully in nearby roads.

When is the workshop?

Winter

  • Thursdays 1 - 4pm, 14th Nov 2024 - 16th Jan 2025, no lessons 26th Dec & 2nd Jan

Spring

  • Thursdays 1 - 4pm, 6th Feb - 3rd Apr 2025, no lesson 20th Feb

How the course will unfold:

  • We will start with colour mixing tips, understanding how to create you own unique palette with limited colours.

  • Experiment with various materials and think about ideas and inspiration.

  • How to develop strategies for a good sketchbook practice to aid your artistic development and break creative blocks.

  • Learn how to select the elements we like and which we don’t, and develop a good eye for good composition.

  • Understand how to let go of ‘mistakes’ and negativity. Getting your mindset right is key to developing a fulfilling artistic journey.

  • By the end of the 8 weeks you should have everything you need to start you off on your creative journey and have at least one finished painting to take home with you!

How much is the workshop?

£250 with all materials provided and you can take all your artwork home.

There are only 10 spaces available so this is a small workshop and I will be fully hands on to help you and answer any questions.
