Paint an Abstract Winter Landscape

One Day Workshop - Saturday 9th November 2024

Even if you are new to painting, come and join me on from for a fun, experimental, acrylic and mixed media painting workshop where we will create a beautiful abstract winter landscape on canvas board which you will take home with you.

We will learn about materials, how to mix colours from a basic limited palette, explore different mixed media and collage techniques, and simple composition to create your landscape.

What you will need to bring with you:

  • An apron or old clothes you won’t mind getting dirty.

  • Examples of paintings that inspire you, or photos of your favourite landscapes/holiday destinations for reference - this is optional and you won’t be copying anything you bring, these will be used as a starting point for further exploration.

  • A packed lunch - I can provide drinks but recommend you bring your own food, and of course the Stapleford Granary Cafe has a selection of light lunches and refreshments.

What I will bring:

  • I will provide all paint, paper, collage materials, pencils and brushes and anything else I can think of that will allow you to have a fun time getting familiar with the subject and expressing yourself in paint!

  • Reference images that we can use as starting points to learn how to abstract the landscape, if you haven’t already brought your own (see above).

  • 20 years experience teaching workshops and developing my own techniques through being a collage artist and designer, turned painter in more recent years. I have made mistakes and had successes in equal measure, so know all the pitfalls and want to encourage everyone, with no judgement, to create and express themselves!

  • Studio 3, Stapleford Granary, Bury Road, Stapleford, Cambridge, CB22 5BP

  • Limited free parking is available on site, if full please park respectfully in nearby roads.

When is the workshop?

  • Saturday 9th Nov 2024, 9:30am - 4:30pm

How the day will unfold:

  • We will start with colour mixing tips, understanding how to create you own unique palette with limited colours.

  • Experiment with various materials and think about ideas and inspiration.

  • Create collage papers with a gelli plate.

  • Learn how to select the elements we like and which we don’t, and develop a good eye for good composition.

  • Learn the importance of layering to get an interesting, textured expressive artworks.

  • By the end of the day you should have one or two finished paintings to take home with you!

How much is the workshop?

£90 with all materials provided and you can take all your artwork home.
